My wife and I just completed a two night, three day trip with Josh March 1-3. The goal of the trip was to experience first hand cruising overnight, anchoring, and practicing other essential sailing skills. The trip started with light winds which allowed us to talk in detail about man overboard tactics and get our sea legs. We anchored in the bay outside of Marina San Carlos and discussed anchoring tactics and settled in for a wonderful evening. Josh was an amazing host and cook! Steaks over a unique charcoal grill were delicious. We talked about life, sailing, realities of living on board and enjoyed the fireworks from the bay. Karin and I slept great in the v-birth and got up around 6:30 to a great morning, coffee, and a breakfast of eggs and bacon! We departed around 11:00 for Bahia Catalina, a bay toward Guaymas, and enjoyed a great sail on a broad reach for a sleigh ride downwind hitting around 7 knots a couple times. We anchored that afternoon around 5:00 learning about positioning with other boats. That night was great with another tasty meal with our host. The next morning was nice and serene. Josh made French toast for our last morning with him which was delightful. We ended the trip in Guaymas. Discovering this bay, anchoring spots in that area to get out of the wind in a storm if needed and learning more about dock maneuvering, tying up etc.
We can’t recommend Josh enough…He is a wonderful host and teacher.
